letting things settle!
Hey!
My last post was about trying and trying and not giving up which you can read here! This post is in a sense an opposite of the last post. This is about my opinion on letting things settle. A large part of this post can be attributed to Mike Hussey's words on the Ravi Ashwin podcast.
Sometimes when we try to get things done we kinda do a bit more than we should. What I mean is that sometimes we are so restless to get things done that we often forget that a few things take time despite the efforts. There are a lot of things which aren't in our hands but when a person is so eager to achieve something, he is likely to try to take control of those things as well. Despite knowing the fact that we cannot control those things, what do we do? We try to pound our way through because that is what we are taught-put your head down and do the hard work and success will follow you. In most cases, I'll support this analogy without a second thought but not every single time. In a few cases, I'll also take a step back and be patient. As humans in the digital age, the word patience takes a back seat for us.
I'd like to share the example Mike Hussey shared about butterflies. This is such a beautiful example and the moment I heard it, I knew this was going on my post. The idea of this post can also be attributed to this exact example. What he says is that when we try to get things done, we are so restless that the option of letting the murk or things settle doesn't cross our mind. He says it's like catching a butterfly. One cannot catch a butterfly by being restless and continuously making attempts. What this process needs is a bit of patience. So, what do you do to catch a butterfly? You let it rest! You let it take its time to settle down and then you are in a much better position to capture it. I know catching or capturing butterflies isn't among the best of ideas to be presented as an example but yet here we are!
I have to be honest with you all. The amount of humbling, learnings and experiences the CS journey has given me are things I'll cherish forever. The only reason why I have been able to articulate my thoughts well and form opinions and create examples or even unearth examples is this journey. When I compare my position a couple of years back and now, I find a difference as wide as the sea.
I hope I've been able to invoke a thought regarding this topic in my readers' mind. That's that then, bye!
